My name is Johannes Wagener and I'm applying to retain my JSF membership.

History
I am a 26 years old student living in Munich, Germany. Currently I am coursing the 6th of Medicine school at the Ludwig Maximilians University (Munich, Germany) and I hope to graduate in a few months. I am member of the JSF since October 2002 and I did several Jabber and XMPP based projects in the past.
In the last months I was occupied with my studies, I had to write an important exam and in addition to that I am working in hospital full time now. Anyway I am looking forward to have more time for coding after graduating in spring 2006 again.
Jabber/XMPP Projects
Code
- I've written XMPP Client Daemon, a stand-alone application that is installed on a computer to make XMPP (Jabber) services available to system. Other applications designed for the XCD API can connect to the XCD and share their XMPP sessions between each other.
- Another project is the wxSkabber client (sadly, the webpage of this client is gone as my sponsor canceled support). There are still some screenshots available online.
More code...
I have tons of unused Jabber and XMPP code on my HD. I hope that I will have the time to upload the lines on a server in the next months.
Jabber documentation
I started writing the Jabber Programmer's Guide.
Plans for the future
I think I should write a Jabber/XMPP extension for Mozilla Thunderbird when I have time.
Jabber - Why I like it
I came to Jabber because I was frustrated that IM was under control of a few commercial companies like ICQ, MSN and Yahoo. In the last years we had some success, for example Google is using our open protocol now. Basically, this means - we are successful on our mission.
Why I'm reapplying
I hope to get up to date with my code in future and contribute to future projects. IM encryption is a thing that is missing in many clients at the moment; I think this is something we should address in the next months. People are not aware of how easy their messages could be read by unauthorised individuals, we really have to do something.
